Edward Brooks diary, 1753-1762.

Journal of Rev. Edward Brooks of Medford, Mass., kept from 29 Sept. 1753 - 11 July 1756 and 16 July 1760 - 29 Sept. 1762. The first part of the diary was kept during Brooks' first three years as an undergraduate at Harvard. The line-a day entries include comments on visits paid and visitors received, subjects studied, and student life on campus. Brooks also notes deaths and illnesses in the community and the weather. The second part of the diary includes comments on Brooks's travels to neighboring communities to deliver sermons.

Samuel Mather (1677-1746) was a member of a prominent Connecticut family. He was born in Branford, Connecticut in 1677; his parents were the Reverend Samuel and Hannah (Treat) Mather. When Samuel was four, his family moved to Windsor, Connecticut. He attended Harvard College, receiving an A.B. in 1698 and an A.M. in 1701.
